How to Set Up Filter Groups ?

This guide walks you through the steps to create a filter group in Sledge to help your customers easily browse and find products based on attributes such as color, size, price, brand, and more.

What is a Filter Group?

A Filter Group is a set of filters configured to display specific filter options on the collection pages of your store. Each filter within the group will appear according to its individual settings.

If the Filter Group is assigned to the "All" collection, then all collections in your store will follow the filter settings made. However, if you create filters assigned to collections other than the "All" collection, those filters will only apply to their designated collections.

In other words, a Filter Group helps you manage and display relevant filters based on the product collection being viewed by visitors.

Purpose

The purpose of a Filter Group is to make product navigation intuitive and efficient.

By grouping similar attributes such as Color, Size, or Brand customers can quickly narrow down search results, leading to faster decision-making and higher conversion rates.

How It Works

A Filter Group links a Collection to a set of Filter Items.

When a shopper selects a filter (e.g., Blue under Color), the storefront automatically updates to display only matching products.

This is handled by the Product Filter Widget you added to your theme.

Steps to Create a Filter Group

  • First, click the "Add Filter Group" button.

  • A new form will appear on a separate page.

"When you enter the Add Filter Group page, an alert banner at the top will inform you that you must click the Add Widget to Theme button. Once the button is clicked, a new tab will open—please make sure to save it so the product filter widget is added to your theme."

  • A new form will appear on a separate page.
  • Select the relevant collection for this filter group.
  • Fill in the filter group name—we recommend using the same name as the collection to make it easier to identify and manage later.

"On this page, there are system-generated filter items designed to help users create filters more easily."

  • Then, click Save to apply the changes.

"After successfully adding a filter group, the page will automatically redirect to the Edit Filter Group screen. This indicates that the filter group has been successfully created."

  • Then, click the Preview button and select the collection you want to view on the storefront.

  • Here is an example of how it appears on the storefront during the review
